Chris Samuel

Non-Executive Chairman

Chris joined the board of Defaqto as Non-Executive Chairman in February 2016.

Chris’ career in financial services spans more than 35 years. He has a wealth of leadership and board experience, working for businesses involved with asset management and investment banking.

Chris is currently a Non-Executive Director at Alliance Trust plc, Alliance Trust Investments, JP Morgan Japanese Investment Trust plc, UIL Limited, The London Community Foundation, where he chairs the Finance and Investment Committee, and a small number of early stage businesses.

He was previously Chief Executive of Ignis Asset Management until it was acquired by Standard Life, where he led the successful transformation, and then sale, of the business. Chris was also a member of the Executive Committee of the Phoenix Group, a UK FTSE 250 company which owned Ignis.

Prior to his time at Ignis, Chris held Board level positions at a variety of Asset Management businesses including Gartmore, Hill Samuel Asset Management, Cambridge Place Investment Management. Before his move in to Asset Management, Chris worked in a number of senior international roles with the US Investment Bank Prudential-Bache.  He started his career with KPMG where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

Chris was educated at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, from where he has an MA in PPE, and Marlborough College. He is married with three children.
